Haystack - Long Beach, California, 2003
Hay and wood.

Having grown up in Bucharest, the capital of Romania, a place where the former communist leadership imposed a hideous socialistic architecture, I was always drawn towards the beauty of Romanian landscape as well as rural life style. While village life involved a harmonious cohabitation with nature, people in the city have isolated themselves from nature.

As an artist, I have always admired the beauty of haystacks and recognized their visual power as sculptural objects. Through the organic nature and form of the haystack, contrasting the box-shaped gallery, I am interested in suggesting the juxtaposition between rural and urban life styles.
